The Kooks have enjoyed a rapid rise to stardom. The band's debut album Inside In / Inside Out charted at No 9 this year only three years after the group was formed while studying at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. The album itself was put together at Crouch End's Konk Studios where it is said the band faced the "workout of its life". "The idea from when we started the band was to be quite eclectic and open-minded," says Luke Pritchard, lead singer. "The reason there's a lot of styles and influences is more due to circumstance. No-one really rules the band, everyone's into different styles of stuff so it gets pulled in different directions. "That was what we always want to do. Even before we wrote the songs there was the intention of 'what do we all like?' and nobody could pin-point one because there's so many bands we like."
