An incredible phenomenon assembled from the UK televised talent show, Popstars: The Rivals, this five-woman outfit has reached the UK Top Ten 14 times since forming in 2002. Unlike most pre-packaged pop groups, Girls Aloud has received raves from the rock music press, and their sound cuts the fluff with techno beats and a harder rock edge. Known as much for their music as their tabloid-covered antics, the group plays up the sex kitten/bad girl theme and has recently put together a fly on the wall documentary series for British television. Starting with 2003's Sound of the Underground, Girls Aloud has managed to crank out a new album every year since, mixing lots of covers— including "Walk This Way," "I Think We're Alone Now" and "Girls on Film"—with slickly produced, dance ditties to become one of England's most popular groups.
