Alphabeat's sound is mainly retro 80's melodic pop, taking inspiration amongst others from Deacon Blue and Prefab Sprout , with distinctive overlay of male and female harmonies.
Their debut single "Fascination" was a major hit in Denmark during the summer of 2007 followed by a second single, "10,000 Nights of Thunder", which saw equal success.
Their native success attracted the attention of several major labels from larger markets abroad, and Alphabeat were eventually signed to EMI in the United Kingdom . Several popular British publications have praised Alphabeat including NME , The Sun , The Observer Music Monthly and Popjustice . The band was offered to play as a warm-up for the Spice Girls during their reunion world tour 2007, but declined the offer, disliking their style and aiming at a new generation of listeners.
Alphabeat's second British single, "Fascination", is currently being played on rotation on both BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2 . In March 2008 , the song reached #23 in the UK Singles Chart on download sales alone, "Fascination" climbed to #7, and the following week it rose to #6. The band's debut British album is due in the spring of 2008. Alphabeat is currently touring on The Wonky Pop Tour in England.
